PARIS: Elle Fanning As she takes on the job of jury for the L’Oréal Paris Lights on Women’s Worth prize, Elle Fanning is sure to light up the Croisette.
“It is a privilege to lead the Lights on Women’s Worth Award jury and to contribute to the ongoing success of this meaningful project,” Fanning remarked.
Kate Winslet, who has served as the award’s lone juror from its founding in 2021, will give way to Fanning.
These kinds of venues are crucial for helping up-and-coming female artists because they allow them to show off their distinctive abilities and creations and give them the confidence to pursue their artistic goals. I’m excited to see the films because of the incredible skill of the previous year’s finalists.
To recognise a talented female director from each of the two Official Selection short film categories, the Lights on Women’s Worth award was established. This includes the nominees for the Short Film Competition and the La Cinef selection of film school submissions.
“For L’Oréal Paris, the Cannes Film Festival provides an additional opportunity to enable every woman to express who she really is and to break through obstacles. The severe underrepresentation of women in film calls for widespread support, and I’m glad that the L’Oréal Paris Lights on Women’s Worth award continues to effect positive change. According to Delphine Viguier-Hovasse, head of L’Oréal Paris worldwide brand, “Our commitment to female short-film directors is a first step towards creating lasting change against gender imbalance in the film industry.”
A fund worth twenty thousand euros and a complete support network for aspiring female short-film directors are part of the Lights on Women’s Worth initiative.
At an awards ceremony held in conjunction with the Cinéma de Demain dinner, brand ambassador Elle Fanning will present the trophy. Honorary guests Viola Davis, Andie MacDowell, and Helen Mirren are anticipated.
Though a suitable fit, it’s a heavy part for the actress who will only see all of the submissions. In 2020, she directed the short film “Gucci Always Wins.” More recently, she took a seat behind the camera to produce shoes for the upcoming television shows “Mastermind” and “Margo’s Got Money Troubles,” which star Nicole Kidman.
Elle Fanning also has the perfect resume: at the 2019 edition, she was the youngest juror in the history of the film festival.
