The first-ever Mother’s Day commercial for French luxury accessories brand Roger Vivier features actress Laura Dern alongside her 19-year-old daughter Jaya Harper.
Luke Gilford, a photographer, director, and writer based in Los Angeles, shot the charming, loving, and private photos. He has directed music videos for Kesha and Christina Aguilera in addition to advertisements for Mercedes-Benz, Apple, and Valentino.
In the pictures, Laura Dern and Harper can be seen sporting some of Roger Vivier’s most famous designs, such as the iconic Belle Vivier shoe from 1965 and the brand’s Viv’ Choc handbag, which was designed by creative director Gherardo Felloni. Other pieces they are sporting include headbands made of satin encrusted with jewels, an embroidered waistcoat, and a patent leather belt.
When Laura Dern took Felloni to a 2022 Roger Vivier dinner in Los Angeles, that is when Felloni got to meet Harper. Felloni claims he clicked with the young actress right away because of her ability, attractiveness, and personality. Felloni continues, “It was very difficult to choose the final images from this shoot because they were all so good.”
In addition to famous Roger Vivier items, Gilford and Felloni aimed to depict the mother-daughter duo’s resemblance as well as the generational transmission of elegance and sophistication. The campaign’s goal is to demonstrate how timeless beauty can be combined with modern sensibilities and how fashion can be passed down through the generations without losing its meaning.
In a statement for the campaign, Dern claims she has long admired the company. “I fell in love with Belle Vivier when I purchased my first pair of shoes from the brand many, many years ago in Paris. Working with Jaya on this ad has been extremely important since it was a chance for us to express our shared love of fashion as a couple for the first time.

“This is my first brand campaign, and working with my mother on it has been an extraordinary experience that will undoubtedly be treasured,” Harper continues in the ad notes. I owe Gherardo a great deal for extending an invitation to work on this project, which allowed me to showcase iconic Roger Vivier creations like the Belle Vivier.
Born into a show business family, Harper’s parents are Academy Award-winning actress Laura Dern and Grammy-winning musician Ben Harper. Her grandparents are Bruce Dern, singer-songwriter Ellen Harper, and Diane Ladd. Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Jaya Harper is pursuing acting; nonetheless, Laura Dern stated in a 2022 interview on The Ellen Show that it was crucial to her that her daughter complete her education and enjoy a typical upbringing. Dern and Ben Harper are parents to a musician named Ellery Walker Harper.
