We don’t intend to rush through the remaining summer months, despite the abundance of new autumn collections and autumnal trends that have already surfaced. In fact, while it’s still hot and bright, we’re embracing warm-weather attire as much as we can.
Cool looks suitable for outdoor events, late-summer getaways, and summer soirées are demanded by the August heat waves. R29 editors have been restocking on trendy yet practical staples to create our hot-weather ensembles over the past month, ranging from bold jewellery to breezy summer dresses and chic clogs. Moreover, we’re not censoring them! We’re sharing and wearing goods we actually love, including a Damson Madder drop-waist dress, an oversized Skims T-shirt, and a matching Lululemon set.
Lululemon Wunder Train Strappy Racer Bra & High-Rise Short 6″
“If it’s hiking, hot yoga, spinning, jogging, or anything else, I’m usually doing it in my go-to Lululemon clothing. Many of the staple styles are ones I currently possess, but I haven’t tried the Wunder Train Strappy Race Bra and matching shorts yet. I adore how the bra combines the elegant, fashionable style of a bralette with the support of a much larger, heavier construction. I particularly like that they are two cup sizes available (I wear a size 6 in C/D cups). The shorts are really comfy while being comparably compressive. The fact that they have phone-sized pockets on each side was another feature I really liked. Writer Karina Hoshikawa, Senior Lululemon Wunder Train High-Rise Short 6”, $64.00; Lululemon Wunder Train Strappy Racer Bra Light Support, C/D Cup, $58.00; both available at Lululemon.
Stone And Strand Pivot Paperclip Chain
The Pivot chain from Stone & Strand is ideal for individuals seeking an all-purpose, fine jewellery piece. Because the chain has two clasps instead of one, wearers can wear it as a necklace, a bracelet (when wrapped around three times), an anklet (when wrapped twice), or a dangling lariat style. The links in this thick paperclip design are big enough to hook clasps (or cute charms), which is why I enjoy it. However, there are also more delicate (and affordable) rolo chain and cable chain designs. I’ve worn this chain nonstop throughout the summer, and now that my ankles are starting to show, I can’t wait to wear it as a bracelet and charm necklace into the autumn and winter.
Sister Jane Minnie Bow Cami Dress
“I’m not sure how it happened, but I’ve just bought a good number of bright red pieces, and it seems like red is now my favourite colour. I’ve never been a fan of fire engine red since it seems so garish, but this Sister Jane midi dress appeals to me because the colour works so well with its classic, understated form. I don’t usually wear A-line skirts with hyper-feminine bows, but I plan to keep this dress for a very long time. Ebony-Renee Baker, Editor of Fashion
Polly Pocket x Cider Plus & Curve A Polly Kinda Mood Set
Being a child who owned a Polly Pocket compact, I found the toy company’s partnership with Cider to be fascinating. I’ve like combining “doll fashion,” which has become increasingly popular in recent years, into my personal style since it’s surprising and enjoyable. Even though I went up a size to 3XL, the tweed pieces from the collection were still too small on me, even though I was really curious to test them. (I would suggest ordering up two sizes if your breast is bigger.) All the same, this line’s set is a late summer must. The jumper fits well in a size 3XL and features cute rounded collar and buttons covered in fabric.
Although I could have appreciated a bit extra fabric for a more relaxed fit through the stomach area, the matching shorts were nonetheless comfy. To embrace the doll vibes, I accessorised this ensemble with frilly ankle socks and pink patent Mary Janes. — Contributing Plus-Size Columnist Sarah Chiwaya
Dr. Martens Zeb Zag Mule
“I used to think that wearing mules would make my already huge feet appear even bigger, but they actually don’t differ much from wearing clunky trainers. They’re also comfy on days when wearing an open-toe shoe feels too hazardous, such during light rain showers. The tan hue is versatile and seems right for the end of summer. Like with other Doc Martens, I advise breaking them in a little before spending the entire day in them. — Senior Writer Tanyel Mustafa
Skims Boyfriend T-Shirt
“I’ve worn this Skims boyfriend tee nonstop throughout the summer because I adore its boxy, loose fit, which is airy and unrestrictive. I wear it with cycle shorts and trainers for easy excursions to the coffee shop or low-intensity workouts, but I also wear it for sleeping or lounging around the home because the fabric is so soft, it nearly feels like cloud. I already have this t-shirt in the marble and light heather grey colours, but I’m sure I’ll get the black one soon. — Senior Affiliate Partnership Manager Kate Spencer
Pandora ME Small-Link Chain Necklace
“I discovered how much Pandora’s jewellery has changed from the tacky charm bracelets I used to fantasise about in elementary school (and have long since outgrown) when they brought me to Copenhagen Fashion Week this month. I’m happily surprised to be experiencing the Pandora frenzy once more because this gold chain necklace feels elegant and is the ideal chunky length for me (chains that are too thick make me feel like Mr. T). Extra points for the adorable mix-and-match charms, such the lock and key and glittering bee, which serve as a gentle reminder that it’s acceptable to have a slightly childlike sense of style. Ebony-Renee Baker, Editor of Fashion
Damson Madder Iris Bow Midi Dress
“Damson Madder is a tiny, woman-led business based in North London that produces limited collections with approximately 15 to 35 pieces per drop. Although the brand never fails, I think this dress may be the best one they’ve ever made. Since it’s full length on me, the dropped waist and midi length are ideal for my little frame. The dress has bow details and is structured yet beautifully hangs because it is made entirely of organic cotton. I already know I’ll be wearing this essential piece of clothing for many years to come.” — Senior Social Editor Kelly Washington
Rails Paris Map Boyfriend T-Shirt
“I can’t help but wear this Rails graphic tee every weekend when it arrives. Cosy and airy, the cotton jersey softens with each washing. The Paris map design is really cute, but it’s also edgy enough to look good on a band t-shirt. I felt so rock ‘n’ roll when I wore the shirt to a rock concert and paired it with a denim cutoff maxi skirt. I want to acquire additional tees from the brand’s City Tees assortment, featuring cities like Amsterdam, London, and New York. They’re all large and have funny drawings. — Senior Writer Venus Wong
Reformation Sadey Linen Dress
“It’s linen season, and this Reformation dress has seen the most wear this summer out of any in my closet. The halter neckline sets it apart from other linen midis in my collection, the slit is suitable for both a vacation (with sandals) and a party (with heels), and the ruched bodice is the perfect amount of fitted without being too tight on a sweltering summer day. I’ve been wearing it nonstop with the Jimmy Fairly collaboration sunglasses from Reformation that have a rose tint. — Fashion Director Irina Grechko
Jenny Bird Capri Anklet
“I enjoy modernising and styling trends that were popular in our childhood to make them more contemporary (like dungarees). Jenny Bird is the only one offering more options in the ankle department. Now that I primarily wear sandals and ballet flats, styling this delicate silver chain, which features a little pearl at the clasp’s end and several length settings, has been so much fun. — Senior Affiliate Partnerships Manager Kate Spencer
FP Movement Quilted Carryall
Since I received this Free People carryall bag, I haven’t stopped using it, and I’m inclined to buy the second colour that’s in my cart. Thanks to the quilting and wide strap, it feels comfortable being slung over my body while holding my laptop, workout equipment, lunch, and a tonne of other stuff. Importantly for London, it remains waterproof even in light rain showers. It’s one of the greatest bags I possess because of all the internal and exterior zip pockets that make it really practical. — Senior Writer Tanyel Mustafa
Saylor Chantae Dress
Summertime is when the all-white uniform is in style. With its adorable details like the striped patterning, fluttery sleeves, rope-tie belt, and smocked neck, this white dress is everything I could ever want. I feel so put together but at ease in this setting of French countryside sipping wine. Because of the dress’s slight sex, I advise wearing shorts beneath. — Affiliate Coordinator Becca Sax
Birkenstock Milano Sandals
“I acknowledge that I joined the Birkenstock bandwagon somewhat late. I wasn’t persuaded on the notion of slides until I saw Birkenstock’s Milano sandal because I’m used to the sense of security that strappy sandals provide. Like other Birks, the EVA soles support my arch, and the back buckle straps secure my feet firmly. I’m totally convinced on the buzz since these shoes are so adaptable. I’ve been wearing them with leggings, cut-off shorts, and sundresses, and I want to wear them constantly for the remainder of the summer. — Senior Writer Venus Wong
Ace & Tate Oshin Tigerwood Sunglasses
“I adore these shades. They are timeless in my opinion because of the subtle cat eye shape in the dark tortoiseshell colour (I was tempted to get more rectangular ones, but I don’t believe they’ll look cool in a few years). This is crucial to me because I want these to last me a very long time because they contain my prescription. Even Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany’s has made comments about my hairstyle when it’s in a bun! — Senior Writer Tanyel Mustafa
Marrow Fine White Diamond Seven Stars Nesting Ring
It was difficult to find a wedding band that would fit my hexagon-shaped diamond engagement ring on the same finger. I was first introduced to the firm Marrow Fine, which has since grown to be my top pick for unconventional engagement rings and bands (see out this insanely stylish ‘Til Death’ enamel style as evidence). I added a second band, the Seven Stars Nesting ring (top ring), to my engagement ring two years after I got married to create a three-piece stack. The Quinn Wave Band is the bottom ring in the picture. — Fashion Director Irina Grechko
Buck Mason Surplus Rib Scoop Neck Tank Dress
“I’ve been meaning to get a figure-hugging summer maxi dress ever since the Skims long slip dress went viral on TikTok.” I finally recognised my match in this ribbed number by Buck Mason. My shape is well accentuated by the scoop neckline, and the straps are broad enough to hide my bra straps. It feels just like a long cotton camisole, which I adore. Since I am 5’1″, I will probably have the hemline shortened someday, but for now, I’ve been loving the dress worn this way with a pair of wedge espadrilles. — Senior Writer Venus Wong
Aldo Spinella Sandals
“Since receiving these Aldo sandals, they have quickly become my favourite summer footwear. I adore how effortlessly I can wrap them around my leg and how they resemble a contemporary gladiator sandal. Additionally, the soles are incredibly cushiony, which makes shoes pleasant to wear all day. I chose the tan colourway since it’s so adaptable, but I also really like the gold version, which with the appropriate styling could be worn as an evening shoe. — Fashion writer Victoria Montalti, associate
A. Kjaerbede Macy Smoke Transparent Sunglasses
Summer has finally arrived, which means it’s time for sunglasses! These tinted/transparent pairs from A Kjaerbede immediately appealed to me because I’ve been craving one. I think they look great with my hair and I adore the ’90s-inspired style. — Kristine Romano, Photo & Design Associate Editor
Bandolier Tote Bag
I’ve been searching far and wide for a leather carryall bag that looks fancy without costing the same as a luxury bag, and when I came across this Bandolier tote, my search was finally finished. The gold-tone hardware and stamped branding add a classy yet office-appropriate touch, and the pebbled leather material is strong without being too heavy for me to carry. I’ve been tying my favourite thin silk scarves to the handle to add a pop of colour. The inside compartment design is what distinguishes it from other tote bags: in addition to a roomy laptop sleeve, there are numerous zip pockets, a place for your sunglasses, and an attachment for your keys. — Senior Writer Venus Wong
Astrid & Miyu Initial Bold Pendant Necklace
“As I’m not religious, I normally stay away from initial necklaces with the letter ‘T’ because they frequently resemble crosses. But there’s no mistaking this necklace because of its big typography; it’s definitely a T. It looks good layered with other necklaces, but it may also be worn alone. I personally vouch for Astrid & Miyu jewellery items being my favourites because they never fade or discolour. — Senior Writer Tanyel Mustafa
MZ Wallace Micro Woven Box Tote
“I usually go through phases with purses, using one for a long time before switching to a new one.” At the moment, the MZ Wallace Micro Woven Box Tote in Black Lacquer is my bag of the year. With more room than it appears, this stylish black patent “micro” tote is the ideal day-to-night companion for storing anything from lip gloss to a toothbrush. I adore how many sections there are for organising all of my necessities and knowing precisely where everything is. It’s quite useful because you may use it as a tote bag or a crossbody bag. — Affiliate Coordinator Becca Sax
Meller Ayira Sunglasses
It was impossible to wander around Glastonbury Festival without coming across Meller sunglasses, and with good reason. They’ve become a mainstay in many people’s collections of sunglasses because they’re strong, reasonably priced, and UV-ray protecting. When it comes to anticipating next trends in style, Meller is also ahead of the curve. I adore these olive green shoes because they provide a minimalist or jet black ensemble the ideal dash of colour.” — Senior Social Editor Kelly Washington
Naot Fiord Buffalo Leather Clogs
“Normally I don’t prefer comfort over style, but right now I can’t get enough of my clogs. Yes, they are enormous and bulky men’s shoes, but they are also my big and bulky shoes. In fact, the American Podiatric Medical Association has given them their seal of approval for encouraging good foot health, which adds to their comfort. In addition, I adore how the leather shows wear and tear, giving them a worn-in appearance. I’ll own these shoes for a very long time. — Affiliate Coordinator Becca Sax
Ramy Brook Minnie Ruffle Halter Top
Because of its vivid colour, this investment piece has quickly become one of my favourite new additions to my summer wardrobe. Even though this shirt makes a big statement with its oversized 3-D rosette, halter neckline, and tiered structure, it is incredibly wearable. I’ve worn it with white jeans and matching yellow trousers, and my next outfit will be a satin skirt. — Fashion writer Victoria Montalti, associate
