Summer Outfit clothing should be practical and enjoyable. That could mean putting on a breezy nap dress and calling it a day, or it could mean teaming celebrity-favorite Bermudas with a carefree linen shirt. Summertime dressing is made simple by combining traditional wardrobe pieces with recently popular must-haves, all without sacrificing style. We spoke with prominent stylists to get their recommendations for clothing, shoes, and accessories to wear this season, just in case you need some style guidance or inspiration for the warmer months.
1. Say “Yes” to Daytime Sparkles
Shea Daspin, a fashion stylist in New York City, believes that embellishments are essential for summer wear. She mentioned that her favourite sparkles are during the day. “Nothing says ‘I’m still alive!’ than a daily celebration of life adding sparkles anywhere you can,” Daspin stated to InStyle. “I adore Doll Chunk accessories, Laser Kitten, and Tarina Tarantino. Anything that has lamé, holograms, sequins, or rhinestones on it is on my wish list for apparel. LaQuan Smith, Amy Lynn, and Collina Strada have significantly raised the stakes.”
2. Bring on the Beading Summer Outfit
In keeping with the ornamentation concept, Daspin stated that she is fine with anything that seems homemade, particularly if it includes beading on a garment. “I especially love anything Susan Alexandra or Shop Sweet Bead,” Daspin said. “From purses to clothing to home decor — anything bright, colourful, and handmade with love is at the top of my list!”
3. Slip on Platform Heels
Although Y2K trends have seen a significant comeback in recent years, renowned stylist Cindy Conroy predicts that platform heels will be huge this summer. Conroy described the highly sought-after retro shoe as “equal parts comfort and a friend to both short and tall girls, giving you lengthened, toned legs instantly.” “The platform is everything this summer, and I’m really into it! And as a short girl, I require it.”
4. Accessorize with Silk Scarves
Celebrity stylist Lindsey Dupuis told InStyle that ever since she wore a silk scarf over her hair in Catholic school, she has been (im)patiently waiting for the trend to resurface. “The look gave me a glimmer of self-expression when there were few exceptions to the dress code,” Dupuis said. “Personalise them in a way that suits you best, whether around your neck, ponytail, purse, or woven through your braid or belt loops.”
5. Opt for Pastels
If you’re not into bright colours, you can always go with a pastel. “Pastels like baby blue, lavender, pink, and sage green are great colours to tie into your summer wardrobe,” Havlik stated. “Add your favourite gold jewellery to give a soft and elegant look.”
6. Show Some Skin in a Crop Top
Summer Outfit Crop tops are Liz Teich’s (a.k.a. “The New York Stylist”) favourite trend among the numerous attractive but visible skin-baring looks. “I think [crop tops] can work on any body type and [at any] age if it’s done right,” Teich stated to InStyle. “It can really give more shape when worn with a high-waisted skirt or pair of trousers, and the tiny bit of skin is the ideal amount to show off without being too noticeable. If you’re brave, you’ll also notice that low-waisted trousers and/or skirts are in style. For a more sophisticated style this season, I’ve been advising my clients to pair matching sets with crop tops.”
7. Go for the Coastal Grandma Vibe
Grace Thomas, the creator of Builtgracefully, a personal wardrobe design firm, is all about the beachy granny trend this summer. It’s comfy-cute perfection. Thomas said to us, “Think Diane Keaton in Something’s Gotta Give.” “This effortless-cool trend, which consists of breezy items, linen fabrics, and monochromatic, light-hued ensembles, looks fantastic on all body types. An oversized white button-down, white T-shirt and ivory linen slacks would be the ideal ensemble to capture this look.”
8. Try Regencycore
Summer Outfit Fashionistas like Thomas still adore regencycore as a favourite escapism trend, mostly because to Bridgerton’s comeback. “Think statement sleeves, dresses with feminine detailing, bows, and even corset tops,” Thomas said. “You can go all-in on this trend by rocking a dress with pearl accessories, or just add a little bit of this trend to your summer outfits with a corset top and a pair of Levi’s cut-off shorts.”
9. Play with Hyper-Textures
Looking for a quick and simple Summer Outfit wardrobe upgrade? Kimberly Mayhew, CEO of House of Colour, says that textured apparel and accessories (think fringe, feathers and crochet) can work wonders. Mayhew advised, “Embrace the trend in your party wear if you love a bold look.” “For a delicate look, use a single accessory of hyper-texture and balance your outfit with structure in other places.”
10. Keep Cool in Cutouts
Brazen cutouts have been in style for a while, and it doesn’t seem like they’re going away anytime soon. “Back cutouts were a trend last season, but as we move into summer, we will see more shoulder, subversive sexy, and asymmetrical cutouts throughout the wardrobe,” stated Mayhew. “Cutouts draw attention, so find a cutout outfit that works for what you want to show off!”
11. Make It a Mini
Check out the tiny and micro-miniskirt Summer Outfit trend, which has returned just in time for summer, if you like your hemlines incredibly short. “This season sees the return of the micro-mini expressed through ’60s tailoring, upscale co-ords, and bold print vacation wear.” Says Mayhew to InStyle. “Expect to see shorter lengths in casual, formal, and catwalk wear, including business suits, dresses, shorts, and more.”
12. Wear All-White Everything
The creator of Erica Ball Style and professional stylist Erica Ball revealed to InStyle that her go-to summer outfits are monochrome ensembles. She loves spring’s vibrant colours, but she much rather be completely white during the summer. “It’s a chic, effortless way to immediately elevate a look, especially in the summertime.”
